Understanding Nano Silver

Nano-particles are the particles with diameter less than 100nm.  Back in 1984, German H. Gleiter, who unfold the nano-particles, was the first to utilize nanotechnology.  Nano-particle represents a new chemical entity with distinct physical and chemical characteristics.

With the development of the nanotechnology, scientists are able to decompose the silver particle to nano-grade particles, which is referred as Nano Silver.  Compared with silver on the macro scale, Nano Silver has a size of only tens of nanometers, and it has higher biochemical activity with strong bactericidal power.  It only requires applying a very little amount of Nano Silver particles on materials, such as plastics fiber, paint and enamel, to obtain antibacterial power to resist over 650 kinds of bacteria.  Furthermore, Nano Silver has a permanent antibacterial effect with no harmful side effects.

Bactericidal Mechanism of Nano Silver

Silver is proved to be able to kill most of single-celled pathogen on the earth.  Studies have shown that silver has a unique function that can stimulate the metabolism of single-celled pathogen and accelerate the life cycle to its ends, and cause the death of the single-celled pathogen.  After contacting with the silver for six minutes, almost no bacteria can survive.

When making contact with viruses, fungi, bacteria and bacteriophage, Nano Silver particles will decomposed their protease that is responsible for metabolism in their cells, and then cause them to death due to the malfunction in the metabolism system.  And, the dead cells would be expelled from the human body with its metabolism, so the process has very little effect on human body.

Nano Silver Antibacterial Characteristics

1. Interfere Cell Wall Synthesis:

One of the important structures of cell wall is Peptidoglycan.  Bacterial cell wall material interference effect of Nano Silver is the inhibition of the cross-link between Peptidoglycan chains and the enzyme, and cause the loss of cell wall integrity, reducing the protective effect of osmotic pressure, leading to bacteria cell damage and death.

2. Damage Cell Membrane:

Cell membrane is an important part of bacteria cell life activity.  Therefore, if the cell membrane gets damaged or destroyed, it would cause the death of the bacteria.

3. Inhibit Protein Synthesis:

Nano Silver can change or terminate the protein synthesis process, and cause the bacteria to death.

4. Nucleic Acids Synthesis Interference:

Nano Silver will hinder the replication of genetic information, including DNA, RNA synthesis, DNA template transcribed mRNA, and etc.

5. Unique Sterilization Mechanism:

Scientists have discovered the reason why that Nano Silver has long-term sterilization ability is due to its unique sterilization mechanism.  Activated Nano Silver ion is capable of strongly attracting the sulfhydryl on protease of bacteria cell and quickly bond with them.  And, this will make the sulfhydryl-containing enzyme inactive, and cause the death of the bacteria.  The amazing part is that after killing some bacteria, Nano Silver ion will leave the dead bacteria and continue the previously mentioned sterilization process on living bacteria, until all bacteria are destroyed.
